Poland National Independence Day & NPHG 1st Anniversary
Over 100 Friends and guests gathered in Norwich on 11th November to celebrate one of the most important dates in Polish life. The evening began with short talks on the history of PNID and the latest news about our Group. Guests helped themselves to a dleicious and traditional Polish buffet with 'Bigos' (Hunter's Stew) and regional specialities. Then the fun began with a demonstration of the 'Polonaise' and 'Trojak' dances and guests were invited to test their dancing skills. Home-made Polish cakes and pastries were served accompanied by the combined voices of the audience who sang popular folk songs with great enthusiasm. When the 1st Anniversary cake arrived, it was welcomed by a rousing rendition of 'Sto Lat' -"May you live for 100 years" - all sung in Polish! There were some great prizes won in the raffle which helped raise funds for the Group. Our special guests included World War II veterans Antoni Czapp, and Doris Rowland, widow of Franciszek Klaczak, each participants in our Archive Project.
